چکیده

Medium composition for the callus induction, shoot multiplication in four Indian medicinal plants, Boerhaavia diffusa, Baliospermum axillare, Abutilon indicum and Nymphoides cristatum were standardized using Murashige and Skoog`s plant tissue culture medium as the basal medium. The protocol thus standardized was further evaluated replacing sucrose and vitamins with the fruit pulp of Borassus flabellifer (double coconut). Nicotiana tobaccum, a well studied tissue culture plant system was also included as an experimental control. The substitution of sucrose and vitamins in the medium with borassus pulp did not significantly alter the pattern of response towards callus induction, regeneration of shoots and their further multiplication in any of the plant system tested. It was also observed that borassus pulp imparted a mild cytokinin-like effect leading to suppression of shoot height coupled with improved shoot number and enhancement of shoot regeneration from the callus. However, borassus pulp could not consistently support shoot growth for more than two subcultures. The results clearly indicated that borassus pulp, though replaced sucrose and vitamins in a tissue culture medium, such an effect was short-lasting

In vitro Plant Regeneration from the Callus of Shoot Tips in Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. cv. SVPR 2)

A high efficiency shoot organogenesis from callus cultures and plant establishment protocol has been developed for cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. cv SVPR-2) through shoot tip. After 6 weeks of culture, green-compact-nodular organogenic callus induction was observed on the medium fortified with (MS) basal salts, B5 vitamins, 2.0 mgl-1 of benzylaminopurine (BAP), 1.0 mgl-1 kinetin (KN), 30 gl-1 gl...

Effect of Some Phytohormones on Podophyllotoxin Production in Cell and Plantlets Cultures of Linum album

The natural lignan podophyllotoxin, a dimerized product of two phenylpropanoid moieties which occurs in a few plant species, is a pharmacologically important compound for its anticancer activities. Optimization of the in vitro cultures might lead to a renewable source of lignans for medicinal uses. In order to maximize efficiency of podophyllotoxin accumulation via in vitro cultures, the effect...

Medicinal plants are the most important sources of life saving drugs for the majority of world's population. Artichoke is one of the oldest medicinal plants from asteraceae family. In the present study, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid accumulation of different organs of artichoke callus were studied under in vitro conditions in MS, SH, and B5 media. The experiment was performed based on a com...
